Our intent is to provide a high-quality PSHCE curriculum that supports every child to become a confident, resilient, respectful and responsible member of society. We aim to equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to manage their emotions, build positive relationships, make healthy choices and keep themselves safe. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, we promote emotional literacy, positive mental and physical health and an understanding of the diverse world in which we live. We want our children to develop a strong sense of self, respect for others and the confidence to contribute positively to their school, community and wider society.

PSHCE is taught as a weekly lesson from Nursery to Year 6 alongside opportunities to reinforce learning throughout the wider curriculum and daily school life. We follow the Jigsaw PSHE programme which provides a carefully sequenced and progressive curriculum covering relationships, health and wellbeing, living in the wider world and personal development. In Early Years, children also develop their Personal, Social and Emotional Development through Think Equal lessons. Learning is supported through discussion, reflection, practical activities, stories and opportunities for children to share their thoughts and experiences in a safe and respectful environment. Key themes and vocabulary are revisited as children move through school so that knowledge and skills are built upon over time. PSHCE is further supported through assemblies, enrichment opportunities and our wider school ethos.

The impact of our PSHCE curriculum is seen in children who are increasingly confident, resilient and able to make informed choices about their health, relationships and wellbeing. Pupils develop the vocabulary and emotional literacy needed to express their feelings, seek support when necessary and show empathy and respect towards others. They understand how to keep themselves safe, recognise healthy and unhealthy relationships and appreciate the importance of physical and mental wellbeing. As children progress through Park Road Academy, they become more independent and responsible and develop a growing understanding of their role within the school, local community and wider world. Ultimately, we aim for our pupils to leave us with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to thrive in the next stage of their education and in later life.
